My name is Wendy Taylor and I am the teacher librarian at Drayton Hall Elementary School. I have loved reading since I was a child and my goal is to get all our students excited about reading. I received my degree in library and information studies from the University of Oklahoma in 2006. I have been at Drayton Hall since 2009.
Drayton Hall has a large library with almost 10,000 books. Every class visits the library once a week, although students are welcome to come by the library any day to check out a book. During library classes we learn about literature and we develop research skills.
One of the big programs in our library is our participation in the South Carolina Picture Book Award and South Carolina Children’s Book Award elections. We read some of the nominated books together in library classes and students read others independently. You can get the details for your child’s participation by clicking on the “Award Books” link.
Each week the library has a “Research Question of the Week.” It is announced on Monday morning and is posted in the library all week. Answers must be placed in the collection box in the library by Friday afternoon. The winner each week is announced on the following Monday morning. To participate, students must turn in a piece of paper with the answer to the question, the resource in which the answer was found, and their name. One winner is drawn from among the correct responses.
