Third Graders Learn About Native American Traditions

Our 3rd graders had a wonderful hands-on learning experience thanks to a grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission! As part of their CKLA curriculum, students are currently learning about Native Americans, and we were honored to welcome Tammy from the Wassamaw Tribe of Varnetown Indians to our school. Students created beautiful bone bead bracelets while learning more about Native culture and traditions. They had the best time and left with the coolest bracelets, and even better memories!

Career Day

Career Day was a success as students dressed for success and wore outfits representing what they want to be when they grow up. We welcomed guest speakers from the community and enjoyed visits from a variety of vehicles, including fire trucks, police cars, a helicopter, police horses, a garbage truck, a forklift, a Dominion Energy truck, and more. The day ended with a parade from our CD students.

Battle of the Books

We held our DHES Battle of the Books! These teams have been working hard throughout the year to read the SC Children’s book nominees and battled it out in a trivia style competition. Our school winning team The Clever Capybaras will go to the district level to compete other elementary schools. Good luck bobcats!!

Congratulations to our Rookie Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to our Rookie Teacher of the Year, Ms Kaitlin Ashby! In her first year, she has already made a meaningful impact by building strong relationships, creating an engaging classroom environment, and showing a true passion for teaching. We are so thankful to have her as part of our Bobcat family!

Drayton Hall's own Knox Mundy placed in the top 10 at the district spelling bee and will be advancing to the regional bee in March. He has been a part of our school since CD!
Congratulations, Knox!

Drayton Hall's own Knox Mundy placed in the top 10 at the district spelling bee and made it to the fourth round in the regional spelling bee. He has been a part of our school since CD!

This was a district-wide competition for 5th to 8th graders, which makes this accomplishment even more impressive. He correctly spelled abnegation, along with many other impressive words!
